What is
Habitation ?
A habitation is a distinct cluster of houses with a local
name. It is a centre where people live in a compact and contiguous
manner.

the CRCs can verify or cross check the information/data received from
Private schools ?
The CRCs can cross check the information from the school
registers and also check the data for internal consistency.

If the teacher is deputed in the school from
another school and the teacher is drawing his/her salary from the parent
school, in which school the teacher will be counted
?
If a teacher is on deputation (even for small period)
he/she will be counted in the school where he/she is presently teaching
irrespective of the salary being drawn from other school.

What do you mean by respondent ?
In a few cases where Headmaster is not present/available
one of the school teachers will have to fill-up the DCF. In such cases
the teacher who is filling-up the DCF will be treated as the respondent.

In case of enrolment by social category
whether the enrolment figure under Muslim Minority Column is included
into the overall enrolment because it is already covered under the
General/SC/OBC Category ?
The enrolment under Muslim Minority column should not be
considered while counting the total enrolment. The Muslim Minority
enrolment is already included in the General/SC/OBC category.

Fund or Other funds be included into school particular “funds
received from other sources ” ?
All the funds received by the school other than from the
Education Department should be included. Building fund, School major
repairs grant etc. should not be included because they are provided
by the Education Department only.

Which schools are supposed to be covered
under DISE ?
All the
recognized schools imparting elementary education are supposed to be
covered under DISE. It may include schools teaching following classes

From Class 1 to class 5
·
From Class 1 to class 8
·
From Class 1 to class 10/12
·
From Class 6 to class 8
·
From Class 6 to class 10/12
All Schools under Department of Education, Tribal or
Social Welfare Department, Local body, Private. Aided and Private Unaided are
supposed to be covered under DISE.

If a school is unrecognized, what is to be
done with such school ?
Under DISE, our mandate is to collect data from all the recognized schools
only. However, a few states also collect data from the unrecognized schools for their own use. The
data from the unrecognized schools may be collected only if the State has
decided to collect data from such unrecognized schools.

What is supplementary variable ?
DISE has the flexibility to accommodate state-specific variables which are to be used by the State only.
Supplementary variables are the variables which are not the part of
the standard National DCF. Decision to identify and add supplementary variables has to be
taken by the
State and should be implemented in the entire State and not in a few
districts.

Can data entry be undertaken at Block
levels ?
Yes, if a computer and a trained Data Entry Operator (on DISE) is available, the data entry could also be
arranged at the Block level.

What is yahoo group of DISE users ?
The yahoo group of DISE users is the group of different
DISE users at National/State/District/Block level where they can share
their experiences and problems and could be answered by anyone who is a
member of the group.

Who should fill-up the DISE format ?
The Headmaster/Head Teacher should fill–up the DISE format.

What is the source of information which is
to be
filled-in DISE DCF ?
The school’s enrolment and teachers registers, bank
accounts and other relevant documents should be used to fill-up the DISE
DCF. A few infrastructure questions may be filled-up based on the Head
Master/Teacher’s observation.

At what level DCF is to be Printed ?
There
are two ways of printing the DCF
1.
Blank
DCF from the Printing Press
2.
DCF with static school specific data from the software
In case option 1 is used to print the DCF,
it is recommended to have it printed at the State level. If the
option 2 is selected, DCF may be printed at the District/Block
level (if sufficient infrastructure is available) using the latest DISE
software.

What are the requirements to run DISE Software
?
The basic requirement to run DISE software is that your
computer should have Microsoft Windows and Oracle database (Oracle 7 or
above / the latest version of Oracle whichever is available, as on
August 2011 Oracle11g is the current version).

What is the latest version of DISE
software?
DISE 2009 is the latest version of DISE software. Though, you are
requested to visit
www.thedise.net/dise.html for latest version.

I am a CRC Coordinator. What am I
supposed to do and what are my responsibilities with regard to DISE ?
It is your responsibility to ensure complete coverage of
schools falling under your jurisdiction and see that there are no missing values and
the data is internally consistent. You have to submit the filled in DCF
to BRC Coordinator by the time specified to you.

What should I do if a school does not supply
information ? (CRC Coordinator)
States have been advised to give
advertisements in the newspapers before the commencement of data
collection each year which may be used to convince the school. Still, if
a school is not cooperating in providing the data, the issue may be
brought up to the notice of DEO/DPC. Concerted efforts should be made
to collect the data from all such schools.

What to do if year of establishment of a school is
not available/School is very old ?
The year of establishment is generally available with the
District Education Officer (DEO) who maintains the School Register for
all the schools including the old schools. However, in rare cases the information may not be
available even with the DEO. In such cases, probable year of
establishment may be filled-in by the Head Master in consultation with
the BRC/CRC Coordinator and the same may be
reported.

Is pre- primary be also considered while
entering data for “lowest class in school” ?
While entering data into the DISE DCF, the lowest class should
be Class 1 or Class 5/6 only. Pre-primary should not be considered as
the lowest class in the school.

At the time of data entry, I found that
complete
information is not filled-in DCF ? What should I do ?
The data Capture Format should be sent back to the
school through BRC and CRC Coordinators and get it corrected within
three days. The
Data Entry Operators are not supposed to make any assumptions/corrections and feed
the data at their own.

How do I know whether a classroom in a
school needs major or minor repairs ?
The
classification of classrooms require major or minor repairs could be done
using the following:
Major
Repairs: If a classroom require repair work which would cost more than Rs. 5,000/-,
it will be graded as classroom that requires major repair.
Minor
Repairs: If a classroom require repair work which is not
estimated to cost
more than Rs. 5,000/- it would be considered a classroom that requires minor
repair.
Good
condition: The classroom which do not require any repair work should
be treated as classroom with good condition.
Note:
1. The
whitewash, paint, glass or other cosmetic work should not be
considered for repair work.

The repair estimates may be worked out in consultation
with Mason and VEC members by the Head Master.

What should I do if enrolment by Age do
not match with Enrolment by Category & Mediums of instruction ?
The three enrolment tables must tally. In case of
discrepancy, the DCF should be sent back to school for necessary corrections. If the
Enrolment by Caste and Enrolment by age are matching and the school has
only one medium of instruction, the total enrolment may be fed into the
enrolment by medium of instructions.

What do I mean for “funds from other
sources” ?
The funds received from other than the Education or concerned
department to which the school belongs, should come under “funds received
from the other sources”. Generally, the donations by the Village Panchayat etc.
comes under this head.

How do I define partially Pucca Classroom ?
A partially pucca classroom may be defined as classroom
with all four walls of bricks/stone has roof of tin/fiber/asbestos
sheet or any other shed than it may be reported under the category, “Partially Pucca” .

Classrooms with Blackboard
at Ground Level ?
The classrooms with
blackboard at ground level means the classroom where the lower part of
all walls are painted black and being used by the children to use the same
for writing purposes. These classrooms are also known as “Anandayi
Classrooms”.
Note: The blackboards
at ground level should not be counted as total blackboards available in
the school.

What, if electricity connection is there in
school but no electricity ?
There
are three options for Electricity Yes/No

In case
the electricity connection is available but it is not functional for any
reason, it should be considered as ‘Yes but not functional’.

What do I mean by "Toilet seats are
functional" ?
In a few cases, it is found that the toilet seats are
available but the toilet is not functional due to various reasons. In
this case, we need to provide the number of toilet seats functional
(being used) out of the total available.

What do I mean by a functional Computer ?
The number of computers being used by the students
(except temporary non-functional) should be provided.
|

How do I know whether a student is OBC/ SC/ST/Muslim Minority ?
Generally, this information is available in the school admission
register.

If a child is

in Grade I, how do I make the data entry? What if a student in Grade II
and subsequent grades ?
≤
5 option is available for Grade I only. It may also be possible that one
may have a student of Grade II of age 10 and above, in such cases the
maximum age limit provided for the particular grade may be used.

How to identify type of impairment for CWSN ?
The nature of impairment could be used from the
Certificate available with CWSN.
|

What do you mean by Para Teacher/Contractual Teacher ?
Largely, teachers getting fixed salary (or not getting
salary similar to regular teachers or appointed on
contractual terms) be considered as Para/Contract teacher.

How do you define non- teaching staff ?
The Administrative staff (Clerk, Accountant etc.), Peon,
Sweepers, Gatekeeper etc. should be counted in the non-teaching staff.

I am a District MIS Coordinator. How do I
check, consistency of my data ?
The MIS coordinator should check consistency of data
using the consistency option provided in the DISE School Database Module and make
sure that it does not show any ‘*’ . The MIS Coordinator is also supposed
to compare the data with the previous year (number of
schools, enrolment, teachers etc.) and make sure that the number
of schools covered in the current year is not less than the previous year. Same
checks should also be made on total enrolment, teacher and classrooms.

If Mid-Day-Meal is cooked in a classroom, should this room be included in
number of classrooms in school ?
The classroom being used for cooking Mid-day-Meal should
not be counted as a classroom. Instead, it should be counted as 'other
rooms'.

I am a Headmaster, I am filling-up DISE DCF
in February. Should I fill-up current information or of 30th
September ?
The information should always be filled-in as on 30th
September.

How do I know my school is attached to which
CRC ?
The CRC Coordinator contacting the school would know the schools lying
under his/her jurisdiction. In case CRC Coordinator is not involved in
the process, the BRC Coordinator have the cluster-wise school list and
will be able to provide the information.

The distance from CRC to School is 10.5 but
space is not provided in DCF to fill-up the distance in decimal ?
You should round off the distance and the absolute number
should be entered.

What is DISF Fortnight/ week ?
DISE Week/Fortnight is the period during which the data is
collected from all the recognized schools. Many states are
observing DISE Week/Fortnight to collect the data in a time-bound
manner.

What do we mean by a residential school ?
A school is considered as a residential school, if the
school has boarding/Hostel facility for children.
|

What do you mean by
Pucca/Partially Pucca, Kuccha Classroom ?
Pucca - The classroom
in which all four walls and roof are constructed with bricks/concrete/Stone is called
'pucca classroom' (also known as RCC building).
Partially Pucca - If
all the four walls are of bricks/stone and its roof is of tin/fiber
sheet/any other shed, than it should be considered as 'partially pucca'.
Kuchcha Building – If
all the four walls are not brick walls then it should be considered as 'kuchcha'.
(Example: mud, bamboos, hard plywood)

How to fill-up the DCF
if in a school Grade
I to VIII
is recognized
and Grade IX - X is run by a Private management ?
Our mandate under DISE is to collect data from elementary schools
only. In this case the data will be collected from Grade I-VIII under DISE
and the data for grades IX-X will not be collected.

If a student takes leave during the
examination time and not promoted to the next grade then what is the
category of such student ?
The student will be considered as repeater and will be treated as ‘Failure’.
|

Regarding drinking water facility: If a
school is having Hand-Pump installed in the well, what should be the
source or drinking water, Hand-Pump or Well ?
In this case the source of drinking water facility will
be 'Well' as the Hand-Pump is a medium to draw water from the Well.

School's Office, should they be counted in ‘Number of Computers Available’
in school
?
No, only those computers will be counted which are being
used to teach students.

What is number of working days spent on non-teaching assignments?
Number
of working days spent on activities other than teaching would be
considered as working days spent on non-teaching assignment. This may
include work done on election duty, immunization etc.
